Om Run 2017

APRIL 23, 2017

Hari Om!

Chinmaya Mission’s Om Run 2017 (omrun.cmsj.org) was held at the scenic Vasona Park in Los Gatos, CA on Sunday, April 23rd 2017. This is the 7th successful year of this spectacular event. Om Run has grown over the years in scale, content and delivery since its inception in 2010.

Om Run was conceived and envisioned many years ago as one of the ways Chinmaya Mission advocates its Mission statement which is “to give maximum happiness to maximum people for maximum time” Chinmaya Mission was founded by Swami Chinmayananda in the 1950’s and the Mission has grown in leaps and bounds ever since its founding. Today, it has centers in over 380 locations all across the globe to serve the families around in those communities. Chinmaya Mission is a non-profit organization that provides value education for kids and adults.  It also undertakes several community-building and outreach projects, etc.
Om Run is one of the many major annual event organized by the Mission. The Mission has been hosting Om Run in the Bay Area year after year so successfully to build the community around. The proceeds were always given away for noble causes. This year the beneficiaries are cordusa.org and American Diabetes Association.

The event was open for registration to all. There were approximately 2000 enthusiastic pre-registrations for this event even weeks before the event day.
.

Every participant received the Om Run T-shirt, event day brochure, bib, etc in a specially designed totebag. The event had many segments to it. The day started with warm-ups, followed by the runs of 5k, 10k and half marathon, which was all set on pretty trails in Vasona. The day was blessed with balmy weather. Throughout the day the participants were entertained with DJs/ On stage karaoke sessions. There was a spread of Indian food choices and snacks available to purchase from. There was a carnival (mela) section assigned in the park where games such as rock-climbing, slides and other fun elements were facilitated to keep the kids entertained. Apart from that, Vasona Park also had a nice boating facility for people to enjoy. Om Run was a thorough entertainer, as it was a day of fun and celebration for the whole family, which is surely not to be missed.

Thanks to the several sponsors of this event, who had made an event of this grandeur possible.
